I didn’t think 2010 was as strong a year as 2009 in terms of albums. Tons of great individual songs (Truth by Alexander Ebert, Not in Love by Crystal Castles & Robert Smith, and Rill Rill by Sleigh Bells off the top of my head) but albums as a whole felt slightly weaker and less refined than last years crop (more Phoenix please). Still, I think the twenty I picked here are fairly strong. And as always I’m probably tougher on some of my favorite bands who aren’t on the list that put out decent releases. In fact, as I was putting together this list I realized I could have kept going, so the first sentence of this paragraph might be completely out of line.
Anyhow, these are the albums I came back to the most in 2010.
- The Suburbs – Arcade Fire
- Go – Jonsi
- Weathervanes – Freelance Whales
- Forgiveness Rock Record – Broken Social Scene
- Brothers – Black Keys
- A Balloon Called Moaning – Joy Formidable
- High Violet – The National
- Light Chasers – Cloud Cult
- Grace Potter & The Nocturnals – Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
- Contra- Vampire Weekend
- Broken Side of Time – Alberta Cross
- Subiza – Delorian
- Yukon Blonde – Yukon Blonde
- All Day – Girl Talk
- Catching the Tiger – Lissie
- Birds and Cages – Deas Vail
- Have One On Me - Joanna Newsom
- Tiger Suit – KT Tunstall
- Broken Bells – Broken Bells
- Come Around Sundown – Kings of Leon
And because it would be irresponsible for me not to list them, here are my five favorite movie scores of last year:

- Tron Legacy – Daft Punk
- The Social Network – Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
- The Karate Kid – James Horner
- Inception – Hans Zimmer
- How to Train your Dragon – John Powell
Really excited about what 2011 will bring! Will we get a new Radiohead? Fleet Foxes? Maybe an entire album by Alexander? I’ve already liked what I’ve heard from the upcoming Decemberists release, a band I’ve never been too excited about before.

Love this list. I need to fill out the rest of my playlist, but I have many of these albums already.
Thanks :)

There’s definitely some good stuff on here, but I’d like to recommend checking out Tokyo Police Club’s “Champ” and Menomena’s “Mines”. Think you’d dig them.
I’m still digging through that Joanna Newsome album, its good, but there’s so much that its hard for me to get a grasp on.
