girls08.jpgspacer.gifhey! a drawing of a girl! surprise!

from the date on there, it looks like i drew this all the way back in june. that’s how long it takes me to get to scanning my stuff in. by the time i get around to posting it here i’m about ready to start a new sketchbook! not only that, but when i post these old things, i notice all the little stuff i may have learned to do better now. not always, but it’s nice to sometimes see some slight improvement that’s been made in just a couple of months.

men on the moon

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

oh yeah. drawer geeks was new yesterday. this week was elvis and mine was done pretty quickly since i was wanting to get something drawn before my surgery (of which i healed up pretty well so wasn’t that necessary after all).

buuut, i’ve learned i’ve needed to explain this one a bit. i kinda thought that might be the case but jen (my best critic) laughed at it so i thought, “hey! it must work! good!”.

well, uh… here it is:

so my thinking is that elvis is not really dead, right? he’s just living up on the moon somewhere. so i was just gonna, you know, draw him on the moon. but then i was like, shoot! andy kaufamn is up there too. i can’t draw one without the other! but then i wondered if they even got along. i opted for probably not. why they painted a dotted line instead of a straight one i have no idea. like i said, it was done pretty quickly.

manifest destiny

so, not content to simply set up a myspace, i found a very cool plugin for this blog that crossposts my posts into a livejornal account. now, if it’s easier for you to read my buffalog through your friends page on your livejournal account, just add mr_cow to your friends list. you can even comment on stuff there.

i’m slowly conquering the internet, one online community at a time…

recovery on myspace

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

so while recovering yesterday from getting some teeth yanked out, i finally conformed to internet society and set up a myspace account. some of my friends have been bugging me for months now to set one up so i finally did. it’s really sad, but most of my day yesterday was filled up with listing things that i like and searching for people i know (or want to know). and since i really like listing things that i like and finding people that i know, i must say i’m kinda happy that i set the thing up. so if you’re reading this and you have a myspace account, send me a friend request so i can look cool and popular.

i also drew some more pictures of piXie:

a little bit of everything

Monday, August 21st, 2006

tomorrow very early in the morning i’m going to go and get some wisdom teeth removed and a few cavities filled. one of the wisdom teeth is impacted which should be a whole lot of fun. i can’t wait. i’ll likely be in pain for a couple days afterwards which i’m also really looking forward too. it’s the start to a great week! anyhoo, i don’t talk about comics, movies and music enough…

music- i’m really in to sufjan stevens right now. i can’t get his song chicago out of my head. i’ve got to thank my friend jeff denton for introducing me to him.

movies- saw snakes on a plane this weekend and it was every bit as bad as i hoped it would be. i was hysterical. now i’m ready for the fall crop of films, which are usually a big breath of fresh air after the ridiculous and over-the-top summer ones.

comics- my new favorite web comic is zip and li’l bit by trade loeffler. the story is just getting started but i already love it. the art is amazing (love his linework) and there are plenty of sheep. lots of sheep is always a good reason to read a comic.

on the paper side of things, i’m really into the x-men books again after suffering through many, many bad issues (except astonishing of course). mike carey and chris bachalo are a big part of my recovering interest but ed brubaker and billy tan are doing an awesome job as well. and, it’s not really x-men related, but everybody who’s into superhero comics should check out nextwave by warren ellis and stuart immonen. it’s absurdedly awesome.

speaking of x-men, i created a new x-character! she’s got magical mutant pixie powers and there’s even an ‘x’ in her name! i call her piXie! (i’m so lame..)

and now for something completely the same…

so, when i’m not drawing pixies, i’m drawing girls. and i guess since pixies are also technically girls too, i guess i’m always drawing girls. they’re perrrty…

fantastic family foto fun

Friday, August 11th, 2006

oy! busy, busy, busy… so sorry for the lack of posts. i’m afraid this might be the norm for a while as i’m busy working on freelance, my parable story and some cow & buffalo ideas. i did manage to get a fantastic four drawing done this week though for drawer geeks. i struggled at first with this one, especially with the thing (he has no ears! why does he have no ears!), but i like how it finally turned out. the coloring was fun. i tried to go for a very “comic book” look with a bunch of primary colors.

cow & buffalo are back

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

cow & buffalo resumes regular weekly updates today. today’s strip has an extra twelve panels to make up for the missing weeks as well as being the conclusion to the whole sandwich making/time travel saga i’ve been writing for almost a year. let me know what you all thought of it. next week it’s back to normalcy. well, as normal as a cartoon about a cow, buffalo and their pet dinosaur can get.

perhaps the last of the 2006 comic con reports

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

hazzah! jen finally offloaded our vacation photos so i snagged a bunch of the ones she took during comic con. i’ve decided that next time i do post something like this, i’m signing up for a flickr account.

the convention center!

view of half the convention center. the comic con took up most of the whole building.

one more pixie

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

wow.. busy week.

sorry for the lack of posting but there is a lot more catching up to do here then i realized. i’m pretty short staffed at work and at home there are quite a few comic related projects i’m attempting to work on. of course, none of these projects are currently paying ones so the work is slow (but fun!). one of which is this coming sunday’s cow & buffalo which is 18 panels long instead of the usual six to make up for the missing weeks.

jen is still working her way through all of the pictures she shot of our vacation but i told her to drop a comic con folder on my desktop so i could post some of those. i’ll most likely get those up sometime tomorrow or the next day. first i wanted to post this very last page out of my previous sketchbook. it’s not a finished one nor is it all too original, but it’s one of my favorites that i’ve done for whatever reason. i even left it in it’s raw, unpolished form because i felt it lost something when i cleaned it up. anyhoo, that’s it for that sketchbook. time to start scanning in some new stuff!
