color test

i drew this little character a couple nights ago and while scanning him in last night i was inspired by sarah and some other people to to give him some color.

i was trying something new for me, which is painting underneath my sketch in photoshop and messing with layer properties and what not instead of inking it first and blocking in shapes. i didn’t spend much time on it either, about an hour, so my color choices were very quickly pulled (generally i mess with things forever until i’m tiredly satisfied). anyhoo, i think it’s obvious that i have no idea what i’m doing with this technique so any tips or tricks that people have are appreciated.

in the clouds

drew another little image of quill…

quill

i’ve got another quill story in my head. it’s been over a year since i drew her though. here’s me trying to remember how again.

don’t fear the reaper

seriously. mine is way too sad and lonely to be afraid of. how would you like it if everything you touched withered and died? actually, i guess that is a good reason to be afraid.

anyhoo, this was for drawergeeks this week. i was planning on doing something more substantial this week. even considered dusting off ye ol’ watercolors. but alas, too much work, not enough geeky fun time.

umbrellas and guns

here’s some quick sketching from ooooo… last month. just got a chance to scan some stuff in.

p&a-guest_th.gifspacer.gifthere was a time last month when i wasn’t quite as busy as i am now. because of that i was able draw a guest strip for one of my favorite web comics, pirate and alien. tyson smith’s celebrating his first month with his first child so october is officially guest month over there. my silly strip went up today. check it out!

hermione in love

drawer geeks is up! this week’s subject was harry potter. now me, i love harry potter but i’ve only seen the movies. jen, however, reads the books and gets so frustrated that she can’t tell me stuff that’s going to happen (i don’t want to spoil the movies). so being the much more knowledgeable harry potter fan then me, i asked her what might make a good drawing and she more or less came up with what you see here.

from the movie it seems to me that hermione likes harry. but i agree with her. i think her and ron will end up together by the end.

she didn’t like how i added a heart at the end of harry’s wand. i know it’s not in his personality but i thought it gave the piece more of a story. you can interpreted it however you like.

well, my new job is keeping me pretty busy so i’m not sure how much of a blogger i’m going to be for a while. but i wanted to post something so that it doesn’t look like i just disappeared all of a sudden. so here’re a couple more faeries i scanned in last week. i’ll scan in some non-faerie sketches in between freelance and comic work sometime this weekend. this is actually the last of the faeries. unless there’s a huge outcry for more i think it’s time i move onto some other subject matter.
