hourly comic day!

so dean “how on earth does he keep up with everything” trippe let me know of this thing called hourly comic day that takes place tomorrow. pretty much, you draw a little journal comic every hour you are awake and compile them together the next day to show people how your day went in super quick sketchbook form. not one to shy away from a challenge (at least on thursdays), i’m going to try my hand at this. this is my “quick” test comic that i drew today.

yeah. i’m freaking out.

uga!

drawergeeks subject this week was cavemen. and it’s been raining a lot here.

on a music note, congrats to the shins for crafting the first great album of 2007.

comicspace and lions

hey! i joined comicspace. it’s like myspace, only for comic people. it’s actually better because you don’t have to worry about some stranger asking you to visit their myspace page for a fun time or sending you an event invitation to come to their 16th birthday party twenty states away. anyhoo, seems pretty cool. if you create or are into any sort of comics, click over and say hi!

also, remember that lion character i drew for work a couple months back? i drew some more.

you might have see some of these before. a couple of them are just colored versions of some already posted drawings. he’s a fun character to draw, and my higher-ups love em. so he’ll be back. :)

bust a moooove

this was already posted on lbf, but for those of you that don’t visit there i thought you might get a kick out of this:

yeah, these are all over the place. i’m a little late to the party. jen did one too.

butterfly guest strip

butterfly-freeze_th.gifspacer.gifin my excitement over lunchbox funnies on wednesday (see below), i totally forgot to mention that the guest strip i did for dean trippe’s awesome butterfly comic is up this week. go check it out! i actually drew it quite a while ago and i still like it. which is a rare thing for me.

and speaking of lunchbox funnies. a big thanks to everyone that’s taken the time to link or comment over there this week. we’re all very appreciative of the big support we’ve gotten for an all-ages collective, especially in today’s market. keep an eye on the site. we’re going to continue updating it with fun and goodies!

lunchbox funnies

press_group_box_tall.jpgspacer.gifi’m back from my little vacation! and it wasn’t as stressful as i thought it was. actually, it was very nice. i was able to see many, many family members and visit some old friends. spent most of the time just playing video games (hooray for wii sports and guitar hero!). it’s probably a good thing i decided to wait to buy a wii. i would never get any work done. in fact, you can blame the wii for me not having any art to post from my trip. can’t say i miss january’s weather in ohio though. i’m happy to be back in a state that the sun isn’t afraid to show up in. :)

anyhoo, much has happened in my short absence. the biggest of which is one of those web collectives i mentioned a little while ago went live. this one is called lunchbox funnies and it’s an all-ages webcomic collective which includes cow & buffalo and these seven other comics:

ryan estrada’s aki alliance
dave roman’s astronaut elementary
dean trippe’s butterfly
ovi nedelcu’s lunchbox
ryan sias’s silent kimbly
tyler martin’s wally & osborne
trade loeffler’s zip and li’l bit

i’m probably the biggest fan of these guys then anyone, so when they asked if i wanted to be part of lbf it was pretty much a no-brainer. i feel very blessed to be part of the group. there’s a great newsarama article here that explains what the alliance is all about better then what i can, so if you get a chance read that. but pretty much, lunchbox funnies was formed to generate more awareness of eight awesome comics that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. and hopefully, one day, we’ll be able to manufacture these:

also, cow & buffalo has a new forum because of this. click over there and say hullo!

snow white

my super lame, and super quick submission to drawergeeks this week:

snowwhite.gif

i’ve been so busy (and ill) these past couple of weeks (which you’ve probably noticed with the lack of posting) that i didn’t think i was going to have time to submit something this week. and snow white is such a cool subject that this was kind of upsetting (plus we got the assignment like a month ago). behold! i reached deep inside my box of lame, use only in case of emergency ideas of my brain and pulled out this ridiculous concept. at least i won’t feel left out. but i’ll definetly have to make up for it next time.

going on that mini-vacation (aka: a stressful few days away from home) i mentioned earlier. i’ll be back sometime mid next-week.

(oh yeah! cow & buffalo gets a new website this week.  as well as something very cool happening monday.  it’ll be old news by the time i get back but i’ll mention it when i do anyhow.  bye!)

my wife has a blog

jenbanner.jpg

so for christmas i made jen a blog. she’s been looking for reasons to be more creative with her photography and this was one of my husbandly ways of helping her out with that. i figured since my blog gives me reason to do more art (otherwise i’d have nothing to post), then her own blog might do the same for her. of course, i’m on the internet about 160x more often then her, but the intention’s there. she only just started posting yesterday, and is pretty new to this whole blogging thing, but if you get a chance this week swing over there and let her know what you think. i know she’ll appreciate it!

enjoy some milk

i’m going to be part of a couple new web collectives starting up this month. i’m super excited about both of them and can’t wait to announce what they are. for now though, here is an image i finished last night for one of ‘em:

c&b-lunchbox.jpg

so last year i
:

became more public about my faith in Christ.
started to act on that.
started a christian comic anthology.
got mentioned on drawn!.
joined drawergeeks.
drew a backup story for a comic.
gained a new niece.
finally went to comic con (and met many friends!).
started a new job (which i love).
reached 127 strips of cow & buffalo.
published a book (yes! i did! more on that later!).
saw two of my best friends get married.
made many new friends both online and off.
drew everyday, 365 days in a row.
created more illustrations in one year then i have the entire time i’ve been out of college.
discovered pocky.
started up seed again (albeit slowly)
and created this blog.

it felt like a great 2006. and no doubt it all stems from those first two things i mentioned. chances are, troubled times are ahead, but i still have the feeling 2007 will be better then the last. :)

robots!

wheeee! i’m back! maaaan, what an awesome vacation. jen took something like 560 pictures while we vacationed at disney and at our friends’ wedding (disney wedding = best wedding ever!), so she might have some stuff up on flikr soon. i’ll let you know.

i was spending more time playing video games, spending time with old friends, enjoying park attractions and napping in hammocks then i was taking pictures but i did end up drawing some robots. i drew about one of these silly things a day while at the resort.

robots01.jpg

eventually i got bored of this and wondered what cow and buffalo would look like as robots…

robots-c&b.jpg

now i have lotssss of catching up to do. it’s good to be back, but maaan, vacation is nice. it’s a good thing i have another little mini one to go to in a couple of weeks!
