The book is called Once Upon a Super Hero and the first issue debuts at NYCC. After that you’ll be able to get it online and stuff. Which I recommend doing. I’ve already read the first preview issue and it was good. Really good. Can’t wait to read more!

The book will debut at the San Diego Comic-Con next week (OMG) where I’ll be hiding behind table N-O5 in the small press area. Afterwards, I’ll be putting them up for sale online.

I tried to give as much homage to Jim Lee’s design as I could, and I still had to simplify things to avoid frustration. For the record, I’m actually cool with the general idea of it. Giving her pants, the smaller tiara, the way the gold trims that red top. It’s just about 85% too much. The choker, those crazy gloves and weird foot thingies seem unnecessary. And the jacket feels like it was only added as a way to incorporate blue into the outfit. Still, this design will work better on film, which I’m sure is the point- especially for a much younger Diana which no doubt will be cast.

What a blast. Thanks to everyone who bought one! I actually still have 2 blanks left that no one has claimed yet. So if any of you out there want one, just drop me a line.

I will have a signed & numbered limited edition print run of fifteen for it at the con. Fourteen of them will be for sale at my table. This was a fun assignment. I was asked by Clash Entertainment, a fantastic new Christian site dedicated to teens and tweens, to draw a bunch of illustrations to go along with a series of online articles giving modest fashion tips for young teenage girls. There were thirteen articles in all which meant thirteen girls (and one guy). Those of you following me on twitter or facebook got a chance to see them as they posted weekly on Clash, but here they are sans text for the first time. But make sure to go HERE to see them all with the articles they were attached to. Some really good tips (if you’re a teenage girl)!

I’ll be in the Small Press section, booth S086 (right across from the concessions). So if you are planning on being there, make sure to stop by and say hi!

I thought it’d be fun to draw the usual girl pin-up you might have seen in magazines at the time (you know, the ones of girls just sittin’ on cars because girls and cars are cool), but have Jetta sitting on one of the many fun futurey cars DiCalrlo created within the comic. I thought it came out alright.

“The Good Girl Art Library: Dan DeCarlo’s Jetta” is in comic shops this Wednesday and all other book stores shortly thereafter. If you’re a fan of Betty & Veronica or Josie and the Pussycats but prefer a sci-fi spin, I encourage you to look for the book. It contains full Jetta comics (collected for the first time), interviews and a bunch of other rare art. I just found out there’s even a preview of the book HERE. Really fun stuff. Here’s the cover:

I always loved Batwoman’s hair, but it bothered me that it was a wig. How can you jump around rooftops wearing a wig? Her mask covers 80% of her face. Is it really necessarily? Regardless, her costume is super cool. Red and black is a great combination.

And by “upcoming” I mean a few years from now (I have stories lined up for Cleo to last me a lifetime). But there are some elements to this piece that come into play as early as chapter 2.

Crazy, accident-prone Jon Morris came to me with the idea and then pretty much gave me free reign to do whatever I wanted. And boy, am I SO glad he suggested a giant red witches hat. :)

I really enjoyed those Young Avengers comics. I’d like to see Marvel bring the title back for some more adventures one day. Or at least do something more with the characters.

ALSO, the Orlando MegaCon is this weekend- which means I’ll be there! In my usual spot: Artist Ally, table white 7. New this year will be some “hot off the press” Cleopatra in Space books as well as some rad new prints. Plus all the usual Cow & Buffalo swag I always have with me.  I might even bring my guitar and sing a song or two. It’s going to be epic.

If you’re unfamiliar with The Suicide Squad, here’s a link to their first story (it’s pretty great). They also appeared briefly in Darwyn Cooke’s The New Frontier. My illo is kind of a blend of these two things.

It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned any bands/artists I’m in to. And since there’s a bunch off great stuff out now and on the way, I figure now’s as good a time as any.

Really enjoying the debut by Yukon Blonde. A new group my pal Keath turned me on to. Folky indy rock stuff. Totally my cup of tea.

I just discovered Freelance Whales last week, whom you can stream their whole album (due out in April) right now on Lala. I really dig their sound, both musically and lyrically. Kind of a blend of Postal Service and Sufjan Stevens.

I love love LOVE this new Joanna Newsom song. I haven’t heard the whole [triple!] LP yet but it’s also streaming in its entirety over at NPR so I’ll be giving it a listen soon.

And lastly Gorillaz have a new album, which is mainly great news for the awesome Jamie Hewlett videos that accompany new Gorillaz material. And hey- that album is ALSO streaming in its entirety!

Here’s a couple of sketches of Khensu I posted over at Cleopatra in Space. Anything Cleo related I’ll prob just post over there, but I might crosspost the occasional drawing or illustration here as well.

And lastly, my sister and bro-in-law had their first baby last week! A healthy, adorable, wrinkly little boy. So here’s a little sketch I did of my new nephew, Desmond S Tally, while I was over at their place seeing him for the first time.
