John Carter of Mars

Took a small break from a considerable amount of freelance and comic work right now to draw this long overdue John Carter of Mars commission. First time I’ve ever drawn the characters. Probably won’t be the last.

Gwen

Another quick little meeting sketch. I always seem to sit there doodling girls in jackets.

Bye, 2011

Got this idea from Dean Trippe and Doc Shaner. A small retrospective of some of my favorite things I drew in 2011. Lots of Batgirl and Supergirl in there!

Ready for 2012 now. :)

They Hoard Candy Canes

Was in a meeting today. Drew this elf.

Purple

Not sure what this is. Started out as a simple warm-up doodle, then I decided to throw some color on it.  But mostly the purple color. Maybe I’ll do all the colors someday (but probably not).

Jackie Rose

Pinup I just finished up of Josh Ulrich’s Jackie Rose, who just finished his first book of the temperamental, globetrotting treasure hunter this week. Check it out!

Drew Cleo (and Khensu) this morning. Been hard at work on chapter 3!

Saturn Girl

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any little female superhero pinups, so here’s a Saturn Girl to end the work week.

Rainy Halloween

A little rainy day Halloween sketch from this morning.

Smoke up, Bub.

I haven’t read Wolverine and the X-Men yet, but I am assuming now that Wolverine is a professor now, he smokes a pipe.

Batman with a Balloon

For Jon Morris and Dean Trippe, who feel there should be more drawings of Batman with balloons (although I would have drawn this anyway).

Oliver

On October 13th at 3:41 am, Oliver Prime Maihack rolled out* at 7 lbs, 1 oz, 20 in. He’s kinda like the best thing ever.

* Jen would like to inform everyone that “rolling out” was not how Oliver arrived but was, in fact, slightly the opposite of that.

Jen is due any day now.

Jacket

Quick digital sketch from earlier today. Starting to get into the fall spirit!

Zoey

Still have a bunch of finished commissions stockpiling up. Some fun ones. Some odd ones. This one features Zoey from Left 4 Dead. I’ve never played the game so I don’t know if she has a cat, but I like the idea of her having one.

Thanks, Steve.

Quick tribute sketch of Steve Jobs, in his youth, who we all know passed away yesterday due to an ongoing battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 56.

Probably because of the solitary nature of being a cartoonist, I always liked the idea of Jobs toiling away in his garage into the late hours of the night, hunched over a bulky hand-made device that will not only serve to change the world, but solitariness as well.

The above quote comes from a commencement speech Steve Jobs delivered to Stanford University on June 12, 2005.

Sketch Cards: Sci-Fi ed.

Here are a few recent sketch card commissions:

Clockwise: Ripley and the bad guy from that last scene in Alien, Laurie (from Generation Hope), and the cast of SG-1.

One last watercolor commission for the week. This is for a couple who both cosplay and narrate the steampunk cyberserial adventures of their alter-egos, Chief Inspector Erasmus L. Drake and Dr. “Sparky” L. McTrowell.

Tea Time on Dagobah

Watercolor commission of Obi-Wan and Yoda, chilling out on Dagobah. It’s been a while since I’ve drawn anyone enjoying some tea, so thought this was a good opportunity for that- despite the unfortunate ability for Force ghosts to probably do such a thing.
