In an effort to be a healthy financial provider for my son, I’ve put the original art for my last two Batgirl/Supergirl comics up for bid on eBay.

I rarely sell original art so this is a good opportunity to get something of mine if you’re interested. Both pages also include a full-color print of the final comic, which I guess is also something of a rarity now that I’m not selling those online any longer.

One last Batgirl/Supergirl comic, as a kind of thank you to everyone for all your wonderful comments, postings, purchases, and everything else this year. I thought about saying “Seasons Greetings” or “Happy Holidays” for those of you who don’t celebrate Christmas, but since I already had the tree and santa elements in there I figured why not just run with it. Plus I think Kara would be filled to the tipping point for this festive time of year. Babs probably wouldn’t NOT have Christmas spirit, but she would also realize that Gotham’s criminal empire doesn’t take the day off either. Just as long as she can get back in time to share a hot cocoa with commissioner dad.

Anyhow, I think this’ll be it for these little Batgirl/Supergirl comics. I feel these sort of one page, costume themed gags have kind of run their course and if I do any more I’d rather draw a longer arc I have in mind. Next year my primary focus is going to be on my own comic, and there are a few exciting happenings with it that are helping me push that focus. Hopefully that will bring along some exciting news to share with you all next year as well. We’ll see.

For now I have a lot of hard work ahead of me so I hope everyone has a very merry, happy December!  And I’ll see you all next year. Or on twitter.

I decided to finally dip my toes in the world of online auctioning and put the original art for both my SUPERGIRL/BATGIRL cover and comic up for bid on eBay!

These pieces here:

I’ve never sold anything on eBay before, and I rarely sell original art, so this should be a fun experiment! or a disappointing one. Either way, it’ll be an experiment! And now that I actually have something set up on there, maybe I’ll offer some other original arts in the future.

Also, interviews:

Speaking of Batgirl and Supergirl, there’s a short little interview with me on The Brave an The Old specifically about those pieces.

And for those of you sick of hearing about Supergirl and Batgirl here’s ANOTHER interview about all my other comics work pre-supergirl/batgirl craziness.

So Evan “Doc” Shaner drew this nifty little 6-panel Captain Marvel comic based on this monologue his Buddy Cops collaborator Nate Cosby wrote. I casually mentioned that it looked like a great exercise and that it would be fun to draw one. And then Nate Cosby wouldn’t stop bugging me until I drew a Supergirl/Batgirl one. So here you are Nate! Hope you like (you really didn’t have to twist my arm that much).

Supergirl/Batgirl #1

No, I’m not drawing a new Supergirl/Batgirl book for DC (as rad as that might be). This is for the super-fun DC FIFTY-TOO blog that the equally rad Calamity Jon Morris organized in response to the recent DC reboot of it’s entire line. If DC came to me and offered me any book to do, this is what I would have choose. Big surprise! Haha.

Below is the cover sans logo and a process animation of it can be viewed HERE (sorry, flash required).

DC FIFTY-TOO is updating with four new covers from an amazing roster of talent every weekday. Make sure to check out all the great covers already on there! This was fun to draw. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see an issue #2 from me sometime. :)

MegaCon 2011 Sketches

MegaCon was a blast as usual. Love hanging out with everyone over there. And I love only having to travel an hour outside my house. :)

I was pretty slow about getting sketches done this time. I think with this being my third convention in four weeks I was starting to get burnt out a little. But I was happy with the ones I was able to complete. Here are a few I was able to take pics of that didn’t turn out too blurry:

Miami & ECCC Sketches

Here are a bunch of convention sketches I did for some awesome people at the last two shows I’ve been to.

Apologies for some bad image quality. They were all photographed with my iPhone (an incredibly useful little device). If you are the owner of any of these, feel free to send me a hi-res scan!

January Sketches

supergirl04.jpg

Part of my resolution for this new year (okay I know it’s February already), is less interneting and more drawing. So in the mornings before checking my inbox or twitter or news site or whatever, and when I don’t have more important work to be doing, I’ll sit down and draw a sketch of something. Most of which have turned out to be superheroes.

con sketches

Baltimore Comic-Con was great! Thanks to everyone who stopped by. It’s exactly what I want from a comic convention: comic fans who bring their families and enjoy talking about, looking at and buying cool books and art. Also lots and lots of sketching. I thought I’d share a few of my favorites, as well as a few from San Diego that were originally just posted through my twitter account.

Also, sorry for the bad quality on some of these. Most were shot with a camera and without the assistance of my lovely and spectacular photographer wife.

These actually conclude my commission requests for the time being. I’m taking the month “off” to focus on Cleo and some con preparation. But I’m sure I’ll be back to taking on more commissions by the summer. Just keep an eye on my store or twitter feed for details. And thanks to all of you for the requests so far! As always, they are a joy to draw.

batgirl year one

I just recently read Batgirl: Year One and fell in love with Barbara Gordon’s original costume. So much in fact, I was left with no other choice but to draw another Batgirl:

batgirl_yr1.jpg

It was fun to just draw something for myself again. I’ve drawn SO much stuff I can’t (or don’t want to) post here yet. Most of it is super fun but it can still be draining to only draw stuff you have to. Drawing Batgirls is like cartoonist’s therapy.

more batgirl

another b&w batgirl commission. besides my laziness to use vanishing points, i kinda like how this one came out.

batgirl_rooftop02.jpg

speaking of girls, this month has been a great month to be into female vocalists on the music front. it’s been a while since i posted any sort of music lists, so here are five albums showcasing the talents of some very pretty singers right now:

ming doyle IS batgirl!

or at least she was on halloween. ming (an amazing draftsperson by the way) was the first runner up on project rooftop’s latest flights, fights, & tights contest. this means she got a drawing of her in her redesigned batgirl costume by yours truly!

doyle-batgirl.jpg

i just sent this out today, so i hope ming likes it. check out the above link for pics of her costume. and click here for the other awesome prizes drawn by dean trippe and ben hatke.

also- cow can still be found zapping himself all over the internets

batgirl color test

decided to add to the new batgirl meme going on right now. i don’t think this color test came out as nice as the last one. which is funny because i spent more time on it. or maybe that was the problem. regardless, i should have just inked this one. ah well.

batgirl02.jpg batgirl02-color-th.jpg

if you’re curious, you can check out the one i did last year. i pretty much drew the same batgirl. you can also see what this one looks like on a white background instead of the cream (i couldn’t decide which i liked better). there’s all sorts of fun stuff to click on today. :)

batgirl

batgirl01.jpgspacer.gifthought i’d post some more sketches. this is an early page out of one of my last sketchbooks. back when that whole batgirl craze was going on i actually decided to draw one too. just never got around to scanning it. i kinda wanted to ink and color it at one point, but then weeks passed and then i just didn’t really care for it anymore. that happens a lot. if i don’t take a project from beginning to finish in a relatively short period of time, i find it hard to go back to. i can be fairly impatient when it come to my art, and am constantly wanting to move on to the next thing. it can be a real problem since i’m typically working on five things at once.
